Pure Hub Mechelen

De Kettinghe in Heffen becomes Mechelen’s hub

On 9 September, De Kettinghe Community Centre in Heffen near Mechelen celebrated its opening. It was a flavoursome event, with food and drink on offer. As well as a number of speeches, there were also local bands, a guided tour by the architect, children’s activities and the opening of an exhibition of local artists.

The construction of De Kettinghe was made possible thanks to the collaboration of the city of Mechelen, Heffen parish council and RURANT vzw, with the financial support of the European PURE Hubs project. Central to the project is the creation of links between city centres and the countryside.

The project is focussing specifically on the relationship between the city of Mechelen and the nearby high-lying area of the Hombeeks Plateau, consisting of the villages of Heffen, Leest, Hombeek and the Battel area.

De Kettinghe

De Kettinghe boasts a hall with capacity for up to 188 people, a small meeting room, a fully equipped kitchen, and a landscaped outdoor area with a lawn and a petanque court. Clubs and individuals can rent out all or part of the centre for parties, meetings and other events. The meeting centre is also equipped with a video projector, blackout curtains and a patio area.

network of rural entrepreneurs

From 1 October, regular activities will take place in De Kettinghe, under the banners PURE Hubs and Mechels Natuurlijk. Within this hub, a network of rural entrepreneurs will be created to kick start a new dynamic on the Hombeeks Plateau, by means of collaboration, training, day trips and exchanges. The public will be spoilt for choice with a wide range of educational and tourist activities.

From Mechelen, naturally

The Mechels Natuurlijk (‘From Mechelen, naturally’) label is all about tasting, experiencing and enjoying a piece of the Mechelen countryside. And this can take many forms, with the focus on a broad range of products like venison steak, ice creams, rustic bread or potatoes, leek, cauliflower, sprouts…

social media

The proof that the project team are working flat out can be seen from the fact that not only have they provided all the necessary signage, information boards, a folder and a website, but they also have a prominent presence in the social media, with their own Facebook page.
